The author, Ryoji Iwasaki, hails from Saitama Prefecture. In 2005, he relocated to Nukabira in Hokkaido, now known as Nukabira Gensenkyo. Since then, he has consistently documented the Taushubetsu Bridge. 2020 marked 15 years since he began capturing the bridge, which coincided with the launch of the "Taushubetsu Journal" series. Iwasaki, who has showcased his work through photo exhibitions and photo books, established this series to unveil an even greater portion of his vast photo collection.

The Taushubetsu Bridge is a concrete arch bridge located within the Daisetsuzan National Park in Hokkaido. It was constructed in 1937 as a railway bridge. Today, the bridge continues to deteriorate while repeatedly disappearing beneath and re-emerging from the waters of Lake Nukabira. Because it can disappear beneath the water at certain times of year, and because it is expected to eventually collapse, it has earned the nickname "The Phantom Bridge."

This volume covers the Taushubetsu Bridge from March to August 2026. It follows the changing appearance of the bridge and its surroundings from the spring snowmelt through the fresh green season and into summer. On April 27, part of one of the bridge's walls collapsed, altering its appearance once again. Meanwhile, the water level of Lake Nukabira rose significantly from May through July, but even at its summer peak, only about half of the bridge was submerged before the water level began to fall again. Since 2020, there have been continued periods in which the bridge has not been completely submerged. This volume documents the present state of the Taushubetsu Bridge in its 89th year, focusing on two major aspects of its changing environment: collapse and fluctuations in the lake's water level.
