著者の岩崎量示は埼玉県出身。2005年に北海道・糠平（現在のぬかびら源泉郷）に移り住み、以来、タウシュベツ川橋梁の記録を続けてきました。撮り始めてから15年となる2020年。節目の年に合わせて刊行を開始したのが『タウシュベツ日誌』シリーズです。写真展や写真集で発表を続けてきた岩崎が、膨大な数に上る写真ストックのさらなる発表の場を求めて創刊したものです。

タウシュベツ川橋梁は、北海道の大雪山国立公園に残るコンクリートアーチ橋です。この橋は、1937年に鉄道橋として建設されました。現在は1年のうちに水没と出現とを繰り返しながら崩落へと向かっています。時期によっては水面下に沈んで見えないことから、また、近い将来の崩落で失われることが予想されることから、「幻の橋」の別名を持ちます。

2020年に創刊した本シリーズは、北海道のタウシュベツ川橋梁を題材にした記録写真集としておかげさまで7作目となりました。本作『タウシュベツ日誌 第6号』にはおよそ85点の写真を収録。秋から冬の終わりにかけてのタウシュベツ川橋梁を、地上からだけでなくドローンによる空撮も採用することで様々な角度から捉えています。

本作を通じて、秋の終わりに糠平湖の水中へ沈み、冬に再び厚い氷の下から少しずつ姿を現してくるタウシュベツ川橋梁をご覧いただけます。完全水没した後にうっすらと水面下に見える橋のシルエットや、氷点下20℃の夜に星空の下に立つタウシュベツ川橋梁など、ふだんあまり見る機会のない場面も収録しました。

Photographer Ryousuke Iwasaki hails from Saitama Prefecture. In 2005, he relocated to Nukabira (now known as Nukabira Gensenkyo) in Hokkaido and has since been documenting The Taushubetsu Bridge. In 2020, marking 15 years since he began capturing its essence, he initiated the publication of the "Taushubetsu Journal" series. Iwasaki, having consistently shared his work through photo exhibitions and photo books, established this series as a platform to showcase his vast collection of photographs.

The Taushubetsu Bridge is a concrete arch bridge that stands in Hokkaido's Daisetsuzan National Park. This bridge was originally constructed as a railway bridge in 1937. Today, it faces a cycle of submersion and emergence throughout the year, slowly progressing towards eventual collapse. Due to periods when it's submerged underwater and the looming prospect of its inevitable demise, it is often referred to as the "phantom bridge."

This series, launched in 2020, is grateful to present its seventh edition as a photographic record of The Taushubetsu Bridge in Hokkaido. The current edition, "Taushubetsu Journal Volume 6", features approximately 85 photographs, capturing the bridge from fall to the end of winter. Not only are these images taken from ground level, but aerial shots using drones have also been incorporated, offering various unique perspectives.

Through this volume, witness the Taushubetsu Bridge as it sinks into the waters of Lake Nukabira at the close of fall, and re-emerges gradually from beneath the thick ice in winter. Captured moments include the faint silhouette of the fully submerged bridge and the bridge standing tall under the starlit sky on a chilly night with temperatures dropping to -20°C, scenes seldom observed in everyday life.
